Today [livejournal.com profile] sigerson and I went to several places to try to find a bridesmaid's dress that would look good on me. I had several styles picked out, a good idea of what I wanted, and a very relaxed, fashion-conscious sister.

It was hell.

I intend to cleanse the bridal salons of Newbury Street with fire. Who's with me?

Yes. Douse them with cheap booze instead of good rum, though. No point in wasting good rum.

*snugs* I totally lucked out with my MOH and BM - I said get what every you want. MOH gown was $ 13.80 at Lord and Taylor's going out of business sale. BM gown was a loan from me - cost me 25.00 at filenes about a year back. My gown - 1/2 price with a coupon at chadwick's on line. 69.00.

Let me know if I can help you with my good gown karma. Deep green - right?

Pass on as much karma as you like. I'll be haunting Chadwick's for some time to come, it looks like.

You know, there is a Chadwicks outlet up in Nashua NH. If you want to go, I'd be happy to drive you and your sister up there to look.

I do come with Sarah though.

ROTFL! Sarah is my baby daughter - she's 4 months old tomorrow. (EEK! How could that be!)

I know that Auntie Alice or Grandma will watch her for me though if I ask. Grandma would want to come to the outlet too. It's that good. really.

Sarah is adorable. However, she may induce a desire to have babies.

But you're getting hitched, so that's no problem for you. *points and laughs*

This gown is available in Hunter green and the price is nice. Only one possible problem - it's available in a size 8 or a 10.

There are 2 outlet stores - one is in Brockton and the other in Nashua. Brockton is close I think.

I did find one that looked pretty. It just didn't seem like a bridesmaid dress (and wasn't the right color). Nothing else -- nothing else -- even fit.

Date: 2006-07-30 05:57 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] krasota.livejournal.com
How long do you have? You might want to consider commissioning a dress. Are you the only attendant? Or is she letting each attendant choose a different dress in the same color?

Mom made my wedding dress and my attendant's dress. This was after a couple afternoons of mom realizing my boobs were bigger than *hers* and that I was going to be miserable in every single bridal salon.

Wedding is in slightly less than a year. So I've got time. And there's another bride's attendant, but she's in a different color. I'll see her this weekend, so maybe we can have bridal-party talks. Plus, the bride is extremely understanding and helpful and everything else -- you hear that, [livejournal.com profile] sigerson?

From: [identity profile] krasota.livejournal.com
You've got tons of time. I really do suggest the make-your-own route. It just works out so much happier.

Date: 2006-07-31 02:45 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] stealthmuffin.livejournal.com
Probably. Em's certainly going that route, and it sounds oh so pretty.

The trouble is that there's not really anywhere to try on separate styles, as the salons are all still in the mentality of "bride chooses style, bridesmaids just order the size." So I can't tell what will look good on me.

You want to go to Michael's, which is in Natick, I think. Unlike most stores, they have larger sizes that you can try on, rather than squeezing into their one size 10 sample dress and trying to imagine what it would look like if you could zip it.

Date: 2006-07-31 03:01 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] stealthmuffin.livejournal.com
That sounds good. Is it in the Natick Mall?

Date: 2006-07-31 10:59 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] jenwrites.livejournal.com
No, not in the mall itself. I've never been there, so I'm not sure exactly where it's located, but I know several other people who have, and they can't say enough good things about it.

Why not just wear a towel? They come in all those hard-to-find colors, like deep red, and you could get "Frood" embroidered on the front...

Or, failing that, a suggestion from a fellow grad student who got married (God help him) in the middle of last fall term... he pointed out that adding the word 'wedding' to anything automatically increased the price by a factor of at least ten, and he says there's a rennaissance clothing shop in Salem that's cool and reasonable.
