Things that are awesome:
- Nine Mountain retreat center and their very laid-back approach to weddings.
- The weather this weekend.
- My family, especially my dad, who composed a sonnet for his toast, and my mom, who fed a houseful of happy people this morning.
- Seeing my eighty-something great-aunt dancing to "Rock Lobster"
- The Velveteen Rabbi, for many reasons, only some of which have to do with this last weekend.
-
ltlbird,
wavyarms,
cute_fuzzy_evil,
ethicsgradient,
yaoobruni,
bobsquatch,
rissymonster, and many others whom I have undoubtedly forgotten to add (on account of no brain), for helping so much. I mean, house-elves are saying you guys make them look bad.
-
sal_sal, for agreeing with me that the Charlie's Angels bridesmaid picture was an excellent idea.
-
thomascantor, because yeah. Damn.
Things that are so incredibly awesome they might just implode:

Apparently 20th Century Fox is making a movie of The Dark Is Rising, beginning filming later this month and due for release in late September. Given the mixed track record of recent adaptations (*coughEarthseacough*), I'm not sure if I should look forward to it, since there's every chance they could screw it up big time.
However, I do note that they've cast Christopher Eccleston as The Rider.
Christopher Eccleston.
As The Rider.
OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG *eep* OMG OMG OMG OMG

Things that rule
Jul. 31st, 2004 08:44 amSo, some of you may know that there's a Lord of the Rings exhibit at the Boston Museum of Science now. It opens tomorrow at midnight and features weapons, armor, costumes, and effects from the movies.
I got to go to the opening last night.
Why? Because I am Big Media. Fear Me!
No, really. The editor for one of the papers I work on got an invite and passed it on to me. So I got to go and get a little press kit and a badge that said "PRESS" and got to have
thomascantor as my attache.
It ruled.
( Things about the opening )
( Things about the exhibit )
In conclusion: ruled.

Jun. 9th, 2004 10:14 pmWavyarms, you posted to me before I even posted. I've been preempted . . . or preposted . . . or something . . . er . . .
Big news! Big news! I've been accepted as a student in the Viable Paradise workshop for this October!
Viable Paradise is a week-long science fiction and fantasy workshop held on Martha's Vineyard. It concentrates not only on the craft but also the business of writing -- i.e., how to sell it once you've written it. Most of the members of my writers' group are alumni; I admit I was swayed by their favorable descriptions of it when I decided to apply.
So I'm still not published...but damn, this is great.
I think I'll sit around and grin for a while.
