Yet again I have to thank all of you (you know who you are) for getting me involved in Yuletide. I think it's one of the main reasons I've kept sane the last two Decembers. Okay, mostly sane.

Three awesome Master Li stories were written this year, including the absolutely delightful story written for me: Three Jade Mice. It's light and fun and has Number Ten Ox's deadpan delivery down pat. Particularly the penultimate line, which made me laugh out loud.
Master Li put on his best stern expression-- the one he uses to confront Neo-Confucians. "What in the name of the Five Sacrifical Beasts are you doing with my cat, madam?!"

The Ursine Therianthrope Divination, The Middleman. There's a lot of good Middlefic in Yuletide, but this really captured the spirit of the show for me. (I want to see some Opposite Day-related chaos now.) It's got a pairing I didn't expect, but one that works very well in context. Plus, BEARS. and DUCKS. and SQUID.
"Were-bears," he said grimly. "The most heinous of all the weres."

One Goes Alone, The Dark Is Rising, after the series. A lovely, melancholy look at the one who stayed. Beautiful and melancholy, and the Stanton family dialogue sounds just right.
He was thirteen today and the world didn't notice.

In Which Worlds Collide and Eeyore Investigates a Terrible Crime, Winnie-the-Pooh crossed with something else which I won't mention because that would be giving it away. It's tough to copy a style well, and this fic copies two styles perfectly. And in a less brain-breaking way than the other Pooh crossover story from this year.
"Bother," said Eeyore. He had been saving some particularly juicy thistles for a rainy day, and it was difficult to imagine a day more rainy than this one. "Someone else must have taken my thistles." He stared morosely at the spot where the thistles weren't. "How like them."

Puppet Strings and Wooden Things, Ergo Proxy. Pino's a character who could so easily become nothing more than twee. This is a look at her that's both serious and charming, particularly at the very end.
She never asked anything she wanted to know because she never wanted to know anything. But Pinos were supposed to ask questions and ask questions she did, even if she didn't care one way or the other about the answers.

Firelight, Vorkosigan books. A brief moment with Cordelia and Aral. I admit my knowledge of the series is sparse, but these two are my favorite characters.
It felt like a fairytale or a mystery story: the crackling of wood sparking, igniting, being eaten away by a wholly inefficient, organic process, pouring out heat that felt somehow more welcoming and reassuring than the automated systems. A Betan upbringing died hard.

Pre-Test Diagnostic Log #045216/F/4, Portal. Maybe it's because I haven't actually played Portal and so am less freaked out by GLaDOS, but I really love her voice. And this is just right. Down to the cake.
Did I say safety diagnostics? I meant cake diagnostics. Diagnostics of cake.

Even if you're not familiar with Yuletide, I recommend wandering through the archive sometime. There is so much good fic here, from this year and years past, and it just makes me so happy to know this exists.

\o/!

Yuletide has totally transformed my experience of Christmas, in the best ways. I am glad it is keeping you mostly-sane too.

And I second your rec for the Winnie the Pooh and Portal stories. Awesomecakes. :-)

Well, mostly-sane in the good way. (I'm not rich enough to be eccentric.)

Love to you, and see you soon!
