Can you play hooky from home life?
Aug. 30th, 2007 09:15 pmSo work today went from slow in the morning to busy in the afternoon to AAAAAAA around fourish followed by a good half hour of Utterly Bugfuck. At the end of it, I had all my work done, but my state of mind was of the "Yes, President Wilson, I will have another cup of pudding, but the lemurs really should renooberate their glycolysis" variety.
(You know that scene near the end of Real Genius where one guy just stands up and starts screaming? That.)
I got out at six, started walking towards South Station to head home, then stopped. Today was just too damned nice for me to go straight from one computer screen to another.
So I called
thomascantor to inform him that I wouldn't be home for a while, then took a nice leisurely walk down to the waterfront, where I:
- found a spot to sit and watch the tide going out
- went "awww!" over the harbor seals at the Aquarium, one of whom had settled in on the rocks and kept yawning and almost rolling back into the water
- worked out more of the plot point the Muse had handed me last night*, to the point where I think it can fill in some of the blanker, duller bits
- asked the Ghost and Graveyards tour guides what they thought was the weirdest place in Boston, and got some answers that will require follow-up research
- found a beautiful fountain next to a rose garden
- discovered another great place to sit and watch the harbor for the next time I do this.
Yeah. It was a good day, lemurs and all.
*The fact that I hit myself in the eye with my hairbrush seconds after being handed this plot point only reinforces my conviction that the Muse's sense of humor is derived from slapstick and Daffy Duck cartoons. Not that I'm complaining.
