On the one hand, there's a weird sort of macho status to going so long without turning on the heat. It's like bragging rights: "Yeah, it may be a wee bit chilly out, but I'm not so much of a pansy that I actually need heat! Now let me put another seven blankets on the bed." Also, since our rent does not include utilities, there's a lot to be said for saving money.

On the other hand, uncontrollable shivering is not fun. Though I haven't yet seen my breath, which last year marked the turning point at which I demanded we turn on the heat. And drinking lots of hot Tang only does so much to stave off the chill.

[livejournal.com profile] thomascantor doesn't seem to notice, most of the time. Maybe the Y chromosome provides insulation.

Well, since the end of the world would mean I'd definitely have cold toes, I guess I can live with that.

Toes are overrated, anyway. Seriously, who needs 'em?

Sloths! So they can tell the difference between them and...uh...other sloths!

Men characteristically run 3 degrees warmer than women. Tested in labs.

That being said, those days in Allston at my apartment there are NOT missed... one good thing for our crazy condo fee, I guess.

He radiates heat well. I'll give him that.

I stand as existence proof of the non-insulative qualities of the Y chromosome.

But: Hot Tang? Hot Tang? Hot? Tang?? *shudder*

It's the drink of spacemen!

Yes, I know, I'm a freak. But it's warm, and it has slightly fewer calories than hot cocoa, and if I drink tea all day I'll end up twitching in a corner somewhere.

This is why herbal tea exists.

That's only for people who have common sense. And a sense of taste.

I remember drinking that during a particularly damp fall camping trip when I was in Scouts (it wasn't forced on me or anything, I made it up myself. Might have been the only hot beverage I could get.) Or was it hot instant iced tea mix? Something like that. :)

It is sort of a camping thing, from what [livejournal.com profile] thomascantor tells me.

It's all about the blankets! Or portable hot springs. Or ear muffs. Now THERE's a niche no one's explored yet: frankenmuffs! Beholders and celestial sea urchins and green slime....

We had a hard frost up here, last night. And you're three days past the middle of fall. Surely it's getting near time for a lump or two of coal?

I love my electric blanket. I love it goood.

And yeah, we'll probably turn it up sometime over the next couple of days. I'm trying to get into my winter mindset: "It's above freezing! This is good!" or "It's above 20! This is good!" I figure below 20 and I can start to grouse. See above re: me being a big wuss.
