Meme with four!
Sep. 5th, 2006 11:37 pmGot tagged with the "Four things" meme.
A) Four jobs I have had in my life:
1. Door-attacher in a custom cabinetry factory. Hinges every day for a whole summer. I still twitch when I see poorly aligned doors.
2. Secretary for a Harvard economist.
3. Intern at a small press that published science fiction and fantasy erotica.
4. Drive-in person at McDonald's. This was fun for two reasons: I got mistaken for a computer a lot (because the drivers could understand what I said), and when
sigerson worked the second window we gave a lot of people a surreal experience.
B) Four movies I would watch over and over:
1. All of the Lord of the Rings trilogy, plus DVD extras and commentary tracks. Further evidence that I am a geek: The Two Towers is my "I'm PMSing and weepy and want to watch something" movie.
2. Treasure Island with Charlton Heston and Christian Bale. Maybe not "would" watch as "did" watch; it was a favorite of mine when I was younger, to the point of remembering a lot of the dialogue. ("Many's the night I've dreamed of cheese. Toasted, mostly.")
3. Nausicaa of the Valley of Wind. I like the manga better in some ways; the movie is beautiful, but too simple. But it's something I'll happily watch again.
4. Pride and Prejudice. Yes, I know, I need to see the BBC series -- but I liked this a lot.
C) Four places I have lived:
1. Norwich, England.
2. Williamstown, MA.
3. Muncie, IN. Land of 1,000 Potholes.
4. Portland, IN.
D) Four shows I love to watch:
1. Jeeves and Wooster. Oh, life would be so much simpler if we were all newts!
2. Battlestar Galactica. I didn't know they could do that. Wow.
3. Lost. Yeah, it might very well go pear-shaped at the drop of a coconut, but at the moment I'm intrigued. Very much so.
4. Whatever weird-ass anime
cute_fuzzy_evil is currently showing. I get so easily addicted...
E) Four places I have been on vacation:
1. Tokyo.
2. Hermit Island, Maine.
3. Stratford, Ontario, for the Shakespeare Festival.
4. San Francisco. And I'm going back soon!
F) Web sites I visit (more or less daily):
1. Miss Snark, even though I wince in sympathy when she demolishes a query letter. Somewhere, I hope mine are not providing as much fodder for derision.
2. Girl Genius. It only updates MWF, but I still go frequently, partly for the rereads, partly for the incentive sketches through the TopWebComics link.
3. Making Light. Because you can never have enough pirouetting ninjas and sugar-coated exploding rats.
4. Boston.com. For the obvious reasons.
G) Four of my favorite foods:
1. Vanilla ice cream with hot fudge.
2. Cheese. Any variety, really. Even weird caramelish Swedish goat cheese.
3. Homemade "stuff in a jar!" pizza -- I make the crust, top with pesto, then add a bunch of stuff from jars. Roasted red bell peppers, sun-dried tomatoes, prosciutto (okay, so that's not from a jar), and lots of cheese.
4. A potful of English Breakfast tea with sufficient cream and sugar to see me through it.
H) Four things I enjoy doing:
1. Working out plot. There's something so cool about everything sliding together and locking in place. (I'll admit, the best time to have revelations about the opening of the story is not when I'm 2/3 through, but you take the revelations when you can get them.)
2. Baking; usually muffins, but scones or cookies are also good.
3. Gaming in Orb with
sigerson and the rest of us. Even if my character is going to end up grafted to a lettuce and left by the side of the road with a bucket over his head.
4. Research. Yes, that's weird. But it's an awful lot of fun to sort through the woo-woo and the bland to find those very, very interesting bits . . .
I) Four places I would rather be right now: (This is tough -- I'm quite happy where I am right now.)
1. Big comfy bed with a TV at the foot of it, plenty of cable access and a remote, and Room Service bringing me a pint of Haagen-Dasz.
2. Snuggling
thomascantor on the couch while watching Dr. Who.
3. The Cabin in the Woods.
4. England, mostly because I just want to go back someday.
J) Four friends I hope will respond: I always have trouble with this, since I figure most of you are too busy to worry about memes. However, I wouldn't have done this one if I hadn't been tagged, and I enjoyed it.
