Geek Rock!
May. 2nd, 2005 06:11 pmSo I'm thinking about putting together a Geek Rock cd sometime, and I'd like some suggestions.
At the moment, I'm defining geek rock as:
- songs that in themselves are inherently geeky ("Homecomputer," "Mandelbrot Set," Always the First to Die")
- songs that refer to or are tied to geeky media ("The Pants Song," "Obey the Fist!", theme from The Tick)
- songs that confer a geeky mood ("Birdhouse in Your Soul," "Turntable TV")
I'm having the most trouble with the last category, as it's a very vague one.
Any ideas as to what should go on this? Anyone interested in a copy?

Date: 2005-05-03 12:32 am (UTC)In the First:
She Blinded Me With Science by Thomas Dolby
The Sun and James K. Polk by TMBG (although it would be easy to just come up with a whole album of TMBG, and whilt hat may be fun it's not what you're looking for)
I'm Just a Bill by Deluxx folk Implosion
Go Ahead And Split, Mr. Amoeba Man, by Betty
Quick by Eddie From Ohio (another gread band for this)
My Baby Loves A Bunch of Authors by Moxy Fruvous (ditto)
In the third category, A few come to mind (althoughI'm not sure whether this is exactly what you're looking for)
If I Had a Million Dollars by BNL;
"lvis is Everywhere by Mojo Nixon;
Coffee, by Jim's Big Ego;
The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything Song;
Frontier Psychiartist by The Avalanches;
On a sort of diffuse note, "The Sweater" and "Home Ec" by Meryn Caddell seem to fit, and yet . . . I don't know. If you don't have them, I can send.
This is so much more fun than work.
