Transitory art

I like to make sandcastles. I flatter myself that I'm good at it: I can make sand arches, high towers (depending on the sand), and some very strange things. [livejournal.com profile] sigerson and I once built many of the wonders of the world in sand, as well as some other monuments. (The Coliseum was the coolest, I think.)

That said, I know I'm no master. Especially when faced with The World Championships of Sand Sculpture (courtesy [livejournal.com profile] cincodemaygirl). The gallery is full of beautiful, funny, impermanent sculptures, and the amount of detail puts my crude towers to shame.

The "sea serpent and boy with shovel" is my favorite. Although the nonplussed Viking on Page 2 is also quite nice.

Other news:
- I got the haircut. It's...versatile. Meaning that it can end up many different ways, not all of which are predictable. But it's cute, and it's been long enough since I've done cute that I'm enjoying it.
- [livejournal.com profile] thomascantor and I have started watching Battlestar Galactica, thanks to several of our friends with good taste and DVDs. My reactions to it so far are twofold: on the one hand, I come away from it thinking about really heavy issues and wondering where it's going to go from here. (Don't tell me if you know! I have enough trouble keeping away from spoiler sites as it is.). On the other hand, it's produced a bastardized version of the Monty Python Llama Information Sketch: "A Cylon has a heart, a forehead, four legs, and a beak for eating honey. Cylons are larger than frogs..." Cuidado, cuidado, cuidado, cuidado y cylon!
- One agent has requested the full manuscript of Spiral Hunt. Aside from the little manuscripts running around my head going eeeEEEeee, I'm trying not to think about this too much. It may come to nothing. But the interest feels good.
- Still plugging along on the new novel. It's annoying to realize how much of what's been written already will have to be ditched and redone. I keep telling myself not to think about that till the rewrite; what's important is to get it all down now.
- Sent several new stories out, after being a total slacker with their revisions for some time. It feels good to have new stuff out there. Even if all they're doing at the moment is garnering new rejections.

Those sand sculptures are amazing!

Glad to hear the writing is proceeding in...er, a processive manner.

It is indeed! And I'm finally starting to get to the cool plot stuff.

Cuidado, cuidado, cuidado, cuidado y cylon!
Bwahahahaha. Don't forget the fins para nadar!

Bah! I knew I'd forgotten something!

But, but - how do they get the sand to STAY that way?

These are awesome.

As is BG.

And your continued hard work on the writing is awesome too.

Thank you!
I think the work involves judicious uses of spray bottles, though I'm not sure. I'll check the rules.

Good to read all your news. EEEEEEEEEEeeeeeEEEE!

What is that fire hydrant doing to that dog, and why do they both look so happy?

One of many questions I refuse to ask.

Interest! Yay! May it be compounded!
(Ok, never thought I'd say that, but in this supremely good cause and without numbers . . . :-)
You continue to rock amazingly.

hee! Thank you.
It is leaving me a bit twitchy, though. Ask poor [livejournal.com profile] thomascantor.

Good luck! (But not before I have good luck.)

Mutual good luck! Luck all around!
